NEATH AND SWANSEA SEX OFFENDER DAVID WILLIAMS SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS FOR ABUSE OF TEENAGE GIRL

In a case that has shocked the communities of Neath and Swansea, David Williams, a man with ties to both areas, has been sentenced to a decade behind bars for a prolonged and heinous series of sexual offenses committed against a young teenage girl. The court heard how Williams, who was residing at Carlton Terrace in Swansea at the time of sentencing but formerly lived in Neath, engaged in a disturbing pattern of abuse that spanned over three years, beginning when the victim was just 13 years old.

Williams, aged 40, admitted to multiple charges related to his misconduct, including four counts of assault by penetration, six counts of assault, two counts of inciting a child into sexual activity, one count of engaging in sexual activity with a child, and additional sexually-related offenses. The court was informed that his initial acts of abuse involved him kissing the girl with his tongue, an act that marked the beginning of a series of increasingly invasive and damaging behaviors.

Throughout the period of his offending, Williams would grind himself against the victim, make her watch pornography, and touch her breasts. He also forced her to perform sexual acts on him and went as far as shaving her genitals, instructing her to do the same to him. These acts of physical abuse ceased when the girl turned 16, but Williams continued to engage in verbal misconduct, offering her inappropriate advice about her relationship with her boyfriend and maintaining a disturbing level of contact.

Prosecutor Dyfed Thomas highlighted the ongoing suffering of the victim, stating, “She is still suffering, and having nightmares about the abuse that occurred, and wakes up crying at night. She feels he deserves punishment by prison and it will show some of the pain she has been feeling all of these years. She has been suffering for years and feels it is about time he has some of the pain and suffering that she has had for some time.”

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Geraint Walters condemned Williams’ actions, emphasizing the gravity of his offenses. He remarked, “You have admitted routine abuse from the time she was 13 years old. You frankly thought she would never tell. You were of course wrong about that. This court knows from bitter experience that offenses such as this cause untold harm to the victim. It is not an over-statement to say that it is a truly wicked thing to do.”

The judge further explained the profound impact of Williams’ conduct, stating, “Conduct such as this is life-changing for the victim. You subjected her to a catalogue of offending. You deprived her of a normal, happy childhood which is something that is the right of any child, and provides the foundation of adult life. I can’t roll back time or make up the deficiencies. It is a time that came and went and can never come back.”

Williams was also criticized for minimizing his actions, attempting to justify his behavior by claiming mutual attraction, which the court dismissed as a gross misrepresentation, emphasizing that such conduct is characteristic of deviant sexual attraction and not typical of a child’s behavior. The judge noted that Williams showed little insight into the psychological damage he inflicted and warned that he remains a significant risk to other children.

As part of his sentence, Williams was sentenced to ten years in prison, with an additional two years on license. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and was subject to a restraining order that prohibits any contact with his victim. The court’s decision underscores the severity of his crimes and the ongoing threat he poses to the safety of children in the Swansea and Neath areas.
