NOTORIOUS RAPIST ON SEX OFFENDERS' REGISTER DIES IN STAFFORDSHIRE HOUSE FIRE
The convicted rapist and attacker David Wardenier, who was previously sentenced to 15 years in prison for kidnapping, assault, attempted murder, and multiple rapes, has died in a house fire in his rented flat in Staffordshire.Wardenier, 60, had a notorious criminal history.
In December 2004, he forced his 32-year-old victim into the boot of his car, ordered her to strip naked, and repeatedly raped her.
The attack was particularly brutal; he also fed her a mixture of anti-depressants, painkillers, sleeping tablets, and stabbed her 11 times with a kitchen knife.
Wardenier abandoned her, believing her to be dead after the frenzied assault.
However, police later found her severely injured, with a fractured rib and punctured lung, and she required extensive hospital treatment.
He was arrested and admitted to kidnap, attempted murder, and two charges of rape, for which he was jailed at Nottingham Crown Court in April 2005.
He was branded a 'very dangerous man' by the judge.
Despite his sentence, he was at one point on bail after breaching a restraining order.
After his release, Wardenier was re-housed in Stoke-on-Trent and was monitored while on the Sex Offenders' Register for life.
His criminal past was only revealed after he died in a house fire caused by a plastic toaster left on a hob.
Neighbors expressed anger and concern, claiming they were not informed about his past, and some believed he had been living in their street for about six months.
An inquest is planned into his death.
