BIGGLESWADE PAEDOPHILE DAVID TWIST SENTENCED IN CAMBRIDGE AFTER HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE CASE

In a chilling case that has shocked the community of Biggleswade and the surrounding areas, David Twist, a 20-year-old resident of St Andrews Court in Biggleswade, was subjected to a severe and potentially lifelong prison sentence following his conviction for a series of heinous crimes involving child exploitation and abuse.

The case was brought to light after police conducted a raid on Twist’s home in September 2010. During the search, authorities uncovered over 1,000 indecent images of children on his computer, a discovery that painted a disturbing picture of his activities. Further investigation revealed a disturbing web chat log in which Twist communicated with a nine-year-old girl via webcam, coercing her into performing sexual acts and blackmailing her into participating in his sick fantasies.

Twist’s criminal activities spanned over a period from January 2009 to September 2010. He was charged with multiple offenses, including inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, distributing indecent images, and possessing extreme pornography involving animals. His actions were described as “vile” by Judge Gareth Hawkesworth during his sentencing at Cambridge Crown Court.

In September 2011, Twist was sentenced to an indefinite term of imprisonment for public protection, with a minimum of four years to be served in a young offenders’ institution. The judge emphasized the severity of Twist’s crimes, noting that he had been diagnosed by a psychiatrist as a sadist and that he met the criteria for paedophilia. The court heard that Twist had used social networking sites such as MSN and Facebook to manipulate and threaten the young girl, whom he falsely identified as “Sarah May.”

Judge Hawkesworth described Twist’s conduct as “vile” and expressed uncertainty about when, or if, he would be deemed safe for release. The court also ordered Twist to register as a sex offender for life and imposed a sexual offences prevention order, which restricts his internet access and requires monitoring to prevent further abuse.

Prosecutor Sara Walker detailed the extent of Twist’s manipulation, revealing that he uploaded a picture of the girl online and threatened to distribute more unless she complied with his demands. The police identified the girl through a photograph recovered from Twist’s computer, and her mother confirmed her identity, although she was initially reluctant to speak to authorities.

Twist’s perverted conduct began when he was just 17 years old, with evidence showing he had collected images and videos of children aged between two and 14. His actions have left a lasting scar on the victims and the community, prompting calls for vigilance and stronger measures to protect children from predators like him in the future.

Following his release in October 2017, Twist was returned to the community of Letchworth, where he continues to be monitored under strict conditions to prevent any recurrence of his criminal behavior.
