DOMESTIC ABUSER WITH “APPALLING” RECORD FOR VIOLENCE IS JAILED AGAIN
A domestic abuser with an “appalling” record for violence is back in prison for assaulting his on-off girlfriend.David Simpson damaged a doorbell device before attacking the woman at her Hamilton flat.
Simpson, 32, appeared from custody at the town’s sheriff court.
He admitted acting in a threatening or abusive manner and assaulting the woman in Cadzow Bridge Square on December 26 last year.
Neil Thomson, prosecuting, said Simpson turned up at the address shortly before 9pm and began to bang on his on-off girlfriend’s door.
In the process he caused damage to the doorbell unit.
He then engaged in a heated exchange with the victim before shoving her, causing minor bruising.
Simpson recently completed a 10-month sentence for assaulting a fellow prisoner at HMP Addiewell.
In 2023 he was jailed for 20 months after turning up at the woman’s home wielding pliers and threatening to “cut her up”.
Sheriff Colin Dunipace told him: “You have an appalling record for crimes involving violence and the use of weapons, particularly over the last three or four years.” However, the jail sentence was limited to four months because of the time he had spent in custody awaiting the case.
The sheriff also imposed a one-year non-harassment order.
