DAVID SEAMAN FROM LOCHGELLY ADDED TO SEX OFFENDERS' REGISTER AFTER INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR WITH CARE WORKERS
David Seaman, a 79-year-old resident of Lochgelly, has been officially placed on the sex offenders' register following a series of troubling incidents involving two female care workers. The events, which took place during the year 2020, have led to serious legal consequences for Seaman, who appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court to face the charges against him.Seaman arrived at the court in his wheelchair, indicating possible health issues or mobility challenges, and admitted to engaging in inappropriate conduct during the specified period. The charges against him included making indecent comments to one of the care workers, in which he asked her if she wanted to go to bed with him, and also requested a kiss, actions that are considered highly inappropriate and sexual in nature, especially given his age and the context of his interactions with care staff.
In addition to these verbal advances, Seaman also admitted to physically assaulting a second female care worker by slapping her on the buttocks while she was assisting him. This act of physical misconduct further compounded the seriousness of his behavior and contributed to the court's decision to take stringent action.
The depute fiscal, Azrah Yousaf, provided details during the court proceedings, revealing that Seaman had been warned previously about his conduct but continued to behave inappropriately despite these warnings. When police reports were eventually filed, Seaman confessed to slapping the woman and making sexualized remarks, acknowledging his misconduct.
Seaman’s defense lawyer attempted to contextualize his actions, describing them as stemming from initial playful interactions that unfortunately escalated over time. The lawyer also noted that following these incidents, Seaman’s care package was withdrawn, and his wife temporarily took over his care responsibilities. Despite these explanations, the court found the behavior unacceptable and necessary to address through legal measures.
Sheriff Francis Gill ordered that Seaman be registered as a sex offender, a decision that carries significant implications for his future. The court scheduled the sentencing hearing for August 3, during which further penalties or conditions may be imposed. This case highlights ongoing concerns about the conduct of individuals in caregiving roles and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable workers from inappropriate behavior.
