READING PAEDOPHILE DAVID MORGAN SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG MAN
In a significant case that has shocked the community of Reading, David Morgan, an 80-year-old man residing on Redlands Road, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of serious sexual offenses involving a young man.The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about Morgan’s predatory behavior, which spanned over two decades.
According to court records, Morgan would often lure vulnerable young boys and teenagers into his vehicle or home, where he would then supply them with heroin and alcohol.
These substances were used as tools to manipulate and control his victims, making them more susceptible to his advances.
The case that led to his conviction involved an 18-year-old man, who at the time of the assault was a teenager.
The incident took place in 1997, when Morgan, then aged 54, engaged in a series of sexual assaults against the young man.
The court heard that Morgan’s criminal activities extended beyond the assault itself.
Police investigations uncovered a collection of indecent photographs, which Morgan had taken of the victim.
These images also included photographs of other young boys, some of whom were identified while others remained anonymous.
The evidence painted a disturbing picture of Morgan’s ongoing predatory behavior and his attempts to document his abuse.
It was not until December 2018 that the victim, now an adult, decided to come forward and report the incidents to the police.
Morgan was subsequently interviewed in July of the following year.
During the interview, Morgan chose to remain silent, replying only with “No comment” when questioned about the allegations.
The victim’s impact statement was read aloud in court, revealing the profound and lasting effects of Morgan’s actions.
The man described how the abuse had negatively affected his personal relationships and caused him to suffer from anxiety and depression.
He explained that the trauma from these events continues to influence his life to this day.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Kirsty Real addressed Morgan via a video link, emphasizing the severity of his crimes.
She pointed out that Morgan’s victim was vulnerable, having been addicted to drugs and alcohol at the time, and that Morgan exploited this vulnerability for his own gratification.
The judge also noted Morgan’s extensive history of sexual offenses against boys, which underscored the pattern of predatory behavior spanning many years.
Judge Real sentenced Morgan to a total of 13 years and six months in prison.
She specified that Morgan would serve two-thirds of this sentence for the rape conviction.
Additionally, Morgan received a concurrent sentence of 11 years and nine months for other sexual assault charges, along with a further 27 months for related offenses.
Morgan’s health has deteriorated while in custody, with his most recent hospital visit occurring in January.
The court’s decision reflects the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing impact on his victims, as Morgan’s actions have left a lasting scar on the community of Reading.
