RAMSEY MAN DAVID MCILWAIN SENT TO PRISON FOR FILMING TEENAGER IN HUNTINGDON PUBLIC TOILET
In a case that has shocked the local community of Ramsey and the surrounding areas, David McIlwain, a resident of Ugg Mere Court Road in Ramsey, has been sentenced to prison after an incident involving the filming of a teenager in a public toilet in Huntingdon. The events unfolded in June of the previous year, when McIlwain was caught secretly recording a young person at Jubilee Park, located in Huntingdon, while the teenager was using the restroom facilities.According to court proceedings, the victim entered the public toilet at Jubilee Park and shortly thereafter noticed a mobile phone being held over the top of the cubicle. The teenager initially believed that a friend was joking around or perhaps taking a harmless video, but the situation quickly escalated when the victim realized that the phone was pointed directly at him. The teenager then confronted McIlwain, demanding to see if any footage had been recorded.
Prosecutor Charles Myatt explained that McIlwain was reluctant but eventually accessed his phone’s camera roll. It was revealed that there were two videos stored on the device, both depicting the victim urinating. Recognizing the gravity of his actions, McIlwain deleted the videos in an apparent attempt to cover his tracks before hurriedly leaving the scene. Witnesses observed him getting into his car and driving away from the car park located on Kings Ripton Road, with reports indicating that he left in a reckless manner, driving on the wrong side of the parking lot before turning left and disappearing from view.
The court was informed that the incident had caused significant distress to the victim, who reported feeling scared and anxious when using public toilets following the event. Judge Jonathan Cooper acknowledged the impact of McIlwain’s actions, emphasizing that such behavior had added considerable stress to the young person’s life. The court also noted that McIlwain had previously admitted to making an indecent image of a child during an earlier hearing.
As a result of his conviction, 38-year-old David McIlwain was sentenced to 12 months in prison. Additionally, he was issued a three-year criminal behavior order, which aims to prevent any further offenses of a similar nature and to monitor his conduct in the future. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of respecting personal privacy and the serious consequences of such invasive actions in public spaces.
