DANIEL ASHENDEN FROM RAMSEY TO BE SENTENCED FOR TENS OF THOUSANDS OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES

In May 2022, a man from Ramsey named Daniel Paul Ashenden faced serious allegations related to the possession and distribution of indecent images of children. The case was heard before Deemster Cook at the Court of General Gaol Delivery. Ashenden, residing on The Crescent in Ramsey, had previously entered a guilty plea to multiple charges, including 11 counts of possessing indecent images of children and one count of sharing these images online.

The court proceedings revealed that law enforcement authorities had identified a significant number of images linked to Ashenden through a specialized database. Specifically, police had matched approximately 22,000 images to this database, which was considered substantial evidence of his involvement. However, it was also noted that an additional 57,000 images had not yet been thoroughly examined or sorted, leaving a large volume of potentially incriminating material unreviewed. Prosecutor Roger Kane indicated that the case would proceed based on the evidence of the 22,000 images that had been identified and linked to Ashenden.

Following the hearing, Ashenden was granted bail set at £500, with a scheduled court date for sentencing on July 4. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of child exploitation material, and Ashenden’s case remains a stark reminder of the serious legal consequences associated with such offenses.
