SON JAILED AFTER REPEATEDLY BREACHING RESTRAINING ORDER TO SEE HIS MUM
A man identified as David McGowan has been imprisoned after he contacted police claiming he was going to his mother's house and subsequently asked her to prepare him a sandwich, despite a court order prohibiting him from any contact. The 33-year-old had previously been given a suspended sentence for stalking his mother the previous year.
According to reports, McGowan made 50 calls to her within ten hours and sent threatening text messages in a dispute over money.
Despite a five-month suspended sentence and a seven-year restraining order issued on October 22, the defendant went to his mother's residence on November 29 and called the police to say he was heading there.
When officers arrived, the mother had already prepared him a sandwich, and McGowan was arrested.
He was later sentenced to seven months in jail for violating the restraining order and breaching bail conditions.
Judge Tim Gittins remarked that although the incident was relatively minor, it was concerning given the prior circumstances that led to the restraining order.
The judge emphasized that the restraining order remains in effect until October 2028, and McGowan’s defense admitted that his breach was foolish, noting that he simply went to his mother’s house for a sandwich before his arrest.
