DAVID MANNING SENTENCED IN PLYMOUTH FOR SEX OFFENCES AND RAPE CASES
In a recent development at Plymouth Crown Court, David Manning, a 42-year-old man residing on Budshead Road in the Whitleigh area, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term following a series of serious sexual offences involving a minor. Manning faced charges that included seven counts of sexual misconduct, with two of these being rapes, all committed against a girl under the age of 16.During the court proceedings held on a Thursday, Manning pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including four counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, one count of sexual assault, and two counts of rape. The court was informed that the offences took place over the course of last year and this year, with the victim being under 16 at the time of each incident.
Prosecutor David Gittins provided details about the victim’s distress, revealing that she confided in a friend about her assault, stating that Manning had raped her without using any protection. The victim also expressed feelings of despair, indicating she felt suicidal due to the trauma she endured.
It was also disclosed that Manning, who moved to Plymouth from Ireland with his family just a year prior, initially denied the allegations. However, three days after the accusations surfaced, he confessed to his wife and later admitted to the police. In addition to the charges he faced, Manning admitted to taking indecent photographs of the girl, although he was not formally charged for this specific act.
Judge Francis Gilbert QC handed down a sentence of nine years in prison, deducting 46 days for the time Manning had already spent on remand. The judge also mandated that Manning must adhere to an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order, emphasizing the seriousness of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
Following his release, Manning has now returned to live in Plymouth, where he committed these crimes, raising concerns among local residents and authorities about the safety and well-being of the community.
