PLYMOUTH CRIMINAL DANIEL VAIL JAILED FOR BRUTAL VALENTINE'S DAY ATTACK

A dangerous offender has been sentenced to two years and six months in prison for a brutal attack on his girlfriend.

Career criminal Daniel Vail, aged 35, with a record of over 100 previous offences including 18 violent crimes, was found guilty of repeatedly punching his partner and smashing her head against the floor during an incident on Valentine's Day.

The court was told that Vail, who has 45 convictions dating back to 1998, caused the woman to suffer a fracture to her orbital floor, breaking her eye socket, during the assault in a bathroom of a shared house.

The assault began after the couple had left to have sex in the bathroom late at night, which the householder evidently disapproved of and tried to intervene.

In the course of the attack, Vail also assaulted another man by grabbing him by the throat when he attempted to stop Vail's violence.

The judge, Judge Paul Darlow, described the attack as 'a sustained assault' and emphasized Vail's poor criminal record.

Vail pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm to the woman and to assaulting the other man.

Despite claiming remorse and stating that he had been struck with an ashtray by his partner during an argument, Vail was ordered to be subject to a restraining order preventing contact with his victims.

The court heard that Vail had injuries to his head at the time of arrest, and he was sentenced to serve two years and six months in prison.
