DAVID MALLETT FROM GUERNSEY SENTENCED FOR OVER 15 YEARS OF INDECENT ASSAULTS
In a recent court session held in the Royal Court, David Mallett, a 65-year-old man from Guernsey, was sentenced to a total of eight years in prison for a series of heinous crimes spanning more than fifteen years. The court heard how Mallett had repeatedly indecently assaulted the same woman over an extended period, causing profound and enduring harm to her well-being.Judge Russell Finch described Mallett’s conduct as 'wicked' and emphasized that the nature of his crimes involved a severe breach of trust, grooming, and manipulation. These factors were considered aggravating circumstances that contributed to the severity of the sentence. Despite the gravity of his actions, Mallett maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, a stance that is often observed in cases involving abuse.
The victim, whose identity remains protected, suffered significant emotional and psychological trauma as a result of Mallett’s repeated offenses. She struggled with feelings of self-blame and self-hatred, which persisted long after the abuse. Her ordeal was compounded by the fact that she was compelled to give evidence in court, enduring lengthy cross-examinations by legal counsel, which added to her distress.
Although Mallett faced eight charges of indecent assault, he denied all allegations. However, in February, the court found him guilty of each charge after a thorough trial. The earliest of these assaults occurred in the late 1970s when the victim was still a child, and the abuse continued into her adulthood, illustrating a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned decades. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness with which such offenses are regarded and underscores the lasting impact on victims and their families.
