NOTORIOUS SEX KILLER WHO RAPED AND MURDERED CIVIL SERVANT ENJOYS UNSUPERVISED PRISON DAY RELEASE
David Lawler, a man known for his past crimes, is now taking steps towards gaining his freedom through unsupervised day releases from Arbour Hill prison. He is infamous for brutally raping and murdering civil servant Marilyn Rynn in the early hours of December 22, 1995.
Lawler, who was 60 years old at the time, previously served a sentence for rape and was the first Irish criminal to be apprehended due to DNA testing.
Details reveal that Marilyn Rynn, a 41-year-old civil servant living in Blanchardstown, was attacked after taking a shortcut through Tolka Valley Park after leaving a Christmas night out.
Her remains were found on January 7, 1996, after a cadaver dog traced her body following her disappearance on December 22.
Evidence collected, including semen, linked Lawler's DNA to the crime scene.
Lawler had previously believed he could escape detection because of his research online about DNA degradation in the elements, which he thought would prevent evidence from lasting.
His DNA match led to his arrest in July 1996, and upon confession, he admitted, “I only killed her because she recognised me from living near her home.” He pleaded guilty in 1998 and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
During the confrontation outside a Dublin store, Lawler refused to comment when asked if he was enjoying his newfound freedom or if he would like to apologize to Marilyn Rynn’s family.
