DAVID HALE SENTENCED IN ABERTILLERY FOR SEXUAL ABUSE ON PENARTH MARINA BOAT

In a case that has shocked the local community, David Hale, a 41-year-old man from Bryngwyn Road, Abertillery, was sentenced to three years in prison for sexually abusing a young girl aboard his catamaran docked at Penarth Marina. The incident, which took place over a period of two months, involved a disturbing pattern of grooming and exploitation that culminated in multiple acts of sexual misconduct.

According to the court proceedings, Mr. Justice Christopher Pitchford described Hale's actions as a calculated and manipulative process aimed at gaining the girl’s trust. Hale admitted to four charges of engaging in sexual activity with a girl who was under the age of 16. Prosecutor Jane Rowley detailed that Hale had known the girl for approximately two months before the abuse was uncovered. During this period, the girl was taken to Hale’s boat following a party, where the abuse occurred. The prosecution revealed that Hale had also touched her indecently after purchasing alcohol for her, and in a further incident, he engaged in full sexual intercourse with her.

The victim expressed her feelings of disgust and distress, stating that she felt “quite disgusted” by Hale’s actions. Her mother’s discovery of the abuse was pivotal; she found inappropriate text messages on her daughter’s mobile phone, which led to Hale’s arrest. When questioned by authorities, Hale initially denied the allegations, claiming that the girl had been “clinging and overbearing,” attempting to dismiss the accusations.

Defense lawyer Peter Davies acknowledged Hale’s remorse, stating that his client later admitted to the misconduct and was “fully penitent.” The court took into account Hale’s admission and remorse, but still imposed a significant sentence. In addition to the three-year prison term, Hale was ordered to be on licence for five years, participate in a sex offenders’ treatment program, and register as a sex offender for life upon release. Furthermore, the judge prohibited Hale from engaging in any employment that would give him unsupervised access to children under 16 for a period of ten years, aiming to prevent any future harm to minors in the community.
