DAVID FORNO FROM ST HELIER JAILED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN JERSEY
In July 2010, a former educator from Jersey, identified as David Roy Forno, was sentenced to a seven-year prison term after being convicted of multiple charges related to child sexual abuse.The court proceedings took place at the Royal Court, where Forno, aged 36 and residing in St Helier, admitted to committing 19 separate offences involving indecent photographs of children.
Despite his admission to these charges, six additional allegations against him, which he denied, were ultimately dismissed by the court.
The investigation into Forno’s misconduct was a collaborative effort between Jersey Police and the United Kingdom’s Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) unit.
It was CEOP’s specialized training sessions for Jersey teachers that played a crucial role in uncovering the abuse.
During these training sessions, children who had been subjected to Forno’s misconduct came forward and disclosed details of their experiences, which significantly contributed to the case’s development.
The victims, all minors aged between 10 and 13, endured a traumatic ordeal that was thoroughly examined over a period of approximately eighteen months.
Throughout this time, Forno was held in custody, awaiting trial and sentencing.
The detailed investigation revealed the extent of his misconduct and the impact it had on the young victims.
In a statement issued by Jersey Police, officials expressed their acknowledgment of the bravery shown by the victims and their families.
The police highlighted the emotional and psychological distress caused by Forno’s actions and conveyed hope that the court’s verdict would serve as a measure of closure for those affected.
