SEX OFFENDER DAVID FINDLAY EXPOSES HIMSELF TO TEENAGE GIRLS IN SHOCKING INCIDENTS
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Perth community, David Findlay, a former soldier residing on Mercer Terrace, has been convicted of multiple charges related to indecent exposure and sexual misconduct involving teenage girls. The conviction was handed down after a jury found him guilty of intentionally exposing himself to two 16-year-old girls at his residence over a span of several years.
Findlay, aged 37, now faces sentencing at Perth Sheriff Court on May 15, where the court will determine the length of time his details will remain on the sex offenders’ register.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis ordered a background report on Findlay, including an assessment from the Tay Project, which specializes in rehabilitating sex offenders, to inform the sentencing process.
The first incident involving the defendant occurred over a prolonged period, from May 14, 2013, to May 13, 2017.
During this time, a 16-year-old girl was subjected to Findlay’s inappropriate behavior on multiple occasions.
The court heard that Findlay exposed his naked, erect penis to the girl and engaged in masturbation in her presence, actions that constitute serious sexual misconduct.
The second victim, also 16 at the time, was targeted between April 1 and April 30, 2014.
On these occasions, Findlay again exposed his erect penis, physically grabbed it, and made lewd remarks about it.
The jury, composed of 10 women and five men, reached a majority verdict of guilty on these two counts after deliberating for some time.
They were sent home by Sheriff Foulis on a Monday afternoon, with instructions to resume their deliberations the following morning.
While Findlay was convicted on these counts, the jury found three other charges—alleging sexual assault at his home involving the same two girls, as well as an incident involving a third girl aged 15 in a car outside his residence—were not proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Additionally, he was acquitted of two further charges of intentionally exposing himself to two of the same girls, with the jury reaching a majority verdict of not guilty on those counts.
At the time of his trial, which commenced last Thursday, Findlay faced a total of seven charges on the indictment.
His legal representation was provided by defence lawyer David Holmes.
It was revealed during proceedings that Findlay suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, which may be considered during sentencing.
Findlay’s criminal history includes previous convictions for breach of the peace, assault causing injury, and driving under the influence of excess alcohol.
Notably, he also has a record from Catterick District Court Martial on June 15, 2005, where he admitted to two charges of conduct prejudicial to good order and army discipline, resulting in a fine of £500.
Despite these past convictions, Findlay was granted bail and remains at liberty pending sentencing.
The case has raised serious concerns within the Perth community about safety and the importance of vigilant law enforcement to protect vulnerable individuals from predatory behavior.
