DAVID DURO FROM BAYSTON HILL AND DUFFIELD SENTENCED FOR VOYEURISM AT ECCLESBOURNE SCHOOL AND SHREWSBURY LEISURE CENTRE

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the local communities, David Duro, a 38-year-old man with ties to Bayston Hill, Duffield, and Moira, has been convicted of serious voyeurism offenses involving minors and adults. The incident, which took place over a span of nearly two years, culminated in a court hearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court, where Duro faced multiple charges related to the invasive filming of individuals in private settings.

According to court records, Duro, who previously resided on Glebe Road in Bayston Hill and later at Harvest Grove, was found guilty of four counts of voyeurism committed between June 1, 2006, and March 15, 2008. His actions included secretly filming female pupils as they changed in the swimming pool changing rooms at Ecclesbourne School, located in Duffield near Derby. Duro was employed as a swimming coach at the school during this period, a position that granted him access to young students. Police investigations revealed that Duro used his mobile phone to record approximately ten female pupils during their changing routines at the school’s swimming facilities.

In addition to the mobile phone recordings, authorities uncovered that Duro employed a webcam to secretly film individuals in his own home, specifically targeting visitors in his spare room as they changed clothes. These revelations added to the severity of his offenses, which extended beyond the school environment. During the court proceedings, it was disclosed that Duro had also used a webcam to film a student performing sexual acts while he was working at a leisure centre in Shrewsbury. The images and videos, which were discovered by police during a search of his residence in connection with a separate investigation, painted a disturbing picture of his activities.

Despite the gravity of his actions, Ecclesbourne School issued a statement to reassure parents and guardians that Duro’s misconduct was confined to private lessons outside of school hours. The statement clarified that Duro, employed as a swimming manager at the school from May 2003 until March 2006, had undergone the necessary background checks required for working with children. It emphasized that during his employment, Duro also operated a private swim school called DJ Swim School, which was a separate business entity and not affiliated directly with the school. The statement further clarified that there was no evidence to suggest that any Ecclesbourne pupils had been filmed or put at risk during his tenure at the school.

Nevertheless, the court was informed that Duro’s criminal conduct was primarily linked to his private lessons with older swimmers outside of school hours. The court heard that he had used a webcam to film at least one student performing sexual acts while working at a leisure centre in Shrewsbury. The police investigation uncovered that Duro’s mobile phone contained footage of around ten female pupils from Ecclesbourne Leisure Centre, captured without their knowledge or consent.

As a result of his convictions, Duro has been permanently disqualified from working with children. He has also been ordered to attend a community sex offenders’ programme, pay costs amounting to £192, and is subject to a notification requirement under the Sexual Offences Act for a period of five years. The sentence reflects the serious nature of his offenses and the ongoing concern for safeguarding children and vulnerable individuals in the community.
