WAYNE BAYLISS FROM BAYSTON HILL FACES JAIL OVER CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN SHREWSBURY
In a serious development at Shrewsbury Crown Court, Wayne Bayliss, a 40-year-old resident of Meadowbrook in Bayston Hill near Shrewsbury, has been warned that he faces a potential custodial sentence following his admission to possessing a significant number of indecent images of children. The court proceedings revealed that Bayliss had made and distributed over 1,300 such images, with authorities uncovering evidence of his involvement in multiple related offences.During the hearing, it was disclosed that Bayliss had not only created these disturbing images but also engaged in further criminal activity involving children. Specifically, he admitted to distributing one of the photographs in July 2012 and attempting to persuade a child to partake in sexual activity in August of the same year. Additionally, he confessed to possessing three images classified as extreme pornography, also from August 2012. The court was informed that he had made a moving image of an indecent nature, adding to the severity of his charges.
The court heard that Bayliss had also attempted to engage a child in sexual activity, a charge that underscores the disturbing nature of his actions. Despite these admissions, he denied allegations of outraging public decency by secretly photographing women in a public place. Judge Robin Onions, presiding over the case, addressed this aspect, stating that although Bayliss had taken photographs of women at a bus station, they were clothed and the act, while invasive of privacy, did not reach the level of lewd or obscene behavior. The judge emphasized the importance of preventing Bayliss from loitering in areas frequented by young people, such as bus stops and playgrounds, and ordered that he must not possess a camera.
It was also noted that Bayliss had a prior history of similar offences, having been convicted at Shrewsbury Crown Court in 2006 for related crimes. His criminal record further includes a 2007 conviction for persistent solicitation of prostitution and possession of a bladed article. These past convictions highlight a pattern of concerning behaviour.
Judge Onions ordered that psychiatric evaluations be conducted before the sentencing, scheduled for March 17. As part of his bail conditions, Bayliss was prohibited from possessing a camera or being in the company of anyone under 18 unless accompanied by a family member and under supervision. The judge issued a stark warning to Bayliss, stating, “You should prepare yourself for custody,” indicating the gravity of the case and the likelihood of a custodial sentence upon sentencing.
