TAUNTON MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AT HOTEL
A TAUNTON man who sexually assaulted a woman while she was asleep has been jailed for three and a half years.David Braun, 53, was found guilty of sexual assault by penetration without consent.
The attack occurred at a hotel in Coleford, Forest of Dean, in December 2021.
The woman woke up while Braun was in the act of sexually assaulting her.
He was arrested and subsequently charged with the offence.
Braun was convicted on June 6 last year following a trial at Gloucester Crown Court.
The court was informed in a hearing on Friday (January 26) that Braun showed no remorse for his actions.
The judge read the victim's personal statement, describing how her world had been torn apart and expressing her belief that Braun did not show any remorse.
He was sentenced to serve half his jail term before being eligible for release on licence.
Detective Constable Tom Newrick commented that Braun violated the victim during a vulnerable moment and that his actions were appalling.
The victim was praised for her bravery throughout the investigation and court proceedings.
Crown Prosecutor Jill Macnamara expressed satisfaction with delivering justice and emphasized support for victims coming forward.
The judge noted Braun's previous good character and out-of-character behaviour as factors in sentencing.
Gloucester Crown Court was told Braun's behaviour was unusual compared to his character.
