FORMER BOXER BRUTALLY BEAT UP PARTNER
A former boxer was convicted of brutally assaulting his partner, during which he kicked and stamped on her multiple times as she lay on the ground while brandishing a knife.David Bradshaw was on bail at the time of this attack; prior to it, he had stolen his partner's car and crashed it into a wall.
He was also found drunk and shirtless in a pub car park and had kicked a police officer in the head.
At Swansea Crown Court, the judge described the 34-year-old as someone driven by petty jealousy and feelings of inadequacy, characterising him as a domestic bully.
Prosecutor Ryan Bowen explained that on August 22, this year, Bradshaw's partner collected him from Swansea's Singleton Hospital, where he was being treated for a hand injury.
She believed he was intoxicated.
The couple then went to a nearby pub, where Bradshaw accused her of infidelity and of treating him poorly.
He stormed out, taking his drinks with him.
The altercation continued after she left the pub, with Bradshaw demanding her phone, becoming irate, pouring a drink on her, and driving away in her Mini.
He later crashed her car into a wall and abandoned it.
That evening, Bradshaw was found in a pub car park in Morriston, shirtless and intoxicated, having been thrown out for unruly behaviour.
Police arrested him, but en route to the station, officers grew concerned for his well-being and stopped the vehicle, during which he kicked a constable in the head.
Interviewed the next day and released on bail, Bradshaw was involved in another incident a week later at his home in Birchgrove, Swansea.
After drinking a bottle of vodka, he became angry again, throwing objects at his partner, pulling her hair, and injuring her with a punch.
He then attacked her with a knife, kicked her repeatedly, stamped on her, and strangled her.
The assault was reported later that day, leading to his arrest.
She was taken to Morriston Hospital and found to have several serious injuries, including a fractured rib, a swollen eye, a bruised and swollen jaw, and neck bruising.
During police questioning, Bradshaw denied the assault, claiming they engaged in 'rough sex' and suggested she caused her injuries herself.
The victim described her relationship with him as the worst period of her life, noting his unpredictable and violent behaviour had profoundly affected her, causing nightmares and emotional distress.
Previously, Bradshaw had pleaded guilty to charges including aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified, assaulting an emergency worker, and GBH.
His criminal record includes eight convictions for ten offences such as drink-driving, drug offences, battery, and public fights, notably involving a brawl outside a Swansea pub.
Defence barrister Caitlin Brazel explained that Bradshaw had recently mourned the loss of his uncle, a significant role model, which led him to alcohol and drug misuse.
She added that he was remorseful about his behaviour.
The judge sentenced Bradshaw to 32 months in prison, with 27 months for the GBH and an additional five months for previous offences, to be served consecutively.
He will serve up to half the sentence in custody before being released on licence to complete the rest in the community.
