DAVID BRACKS FROM MIDLOTHIAN FACES JAIL AFTER SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH TEENAGE GIRL IN EDINBURGH

A man from Midlothian, David Bracks, is facing potential imprisonment after engaging in a prolonged and illegal sexual relationship with a young girl who was only 13 years old at the time. The disturbing case was brought before Edinburgh Sheriff Court, where Bracks, now aged 34, pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to his inappropriate conduct with the minor.

According to court records, Bracks had initiated a relationship with the girl after they met at a skate park in August 2009. At that time, she was just 13 years old. The court heard that Bracks, who was 19 when the relationship began, and the girl, along with her friends, had been consuming alcohol together at the skate park. Over time, what started as casual flirting escalated into a more serious and illicit relationship. The girl reportedly believed their interactions to be “the most romantic thing ever,” highlighting her young and impressionable state of mind.

The court detailed that during one incident at the skate park, Bracks inserted his fingers into her vagina for several minutes after placing his right hand inside her pants. Following this act, he left to rejoin his friends, leaving the girl behind. The relationship then moved to Bracks’s former residence in Midlothian, where he continued to have sexual encounters with the girl. These encounters took place on a mattress in his living room while she was reportedly “blackout drunk,” indicating she was heavily intoxicated and unable to give proper consent.

It was revealed that Bracks used a condom during these sexual acts, which occurred regularly over an 11-month period. The girl believed she was in a romantic relationship with him, a misconception that was likely influenced by the grooming and manipulation involved. The court was told that Bracks ended the relationship in October 2011, and the girl was reportedly “relieved” when it concluded.

However, it was not until September 2021 that the girl decided to report the abuse to the police, citing ongoing mental health struggles. Following her report, Bracks was arrested. During police interviews, he fully admitted to having sex with the girl and shockingly stated that he had “been waiting 10 years for this relationship to catch up with him.”

In court, Sheriff Derek O’Carroll ordered Bracks to be placed on the Sex Offenders Register. The sheriff also deferred sentencing to allow for the preparation of criminal justice social work reports. He emphasized the seriousness of the case, warning Bracks that “all options are open to the court,” indicating the potential for a custodial sentence. The case underscores the grave nature of grooming and sexual abuse involving minors, especially when alcohol and manipulation are involved, and highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address such offenses.
