JAMES DUFFY FROM DALKEITH SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN EDINBURGH

In a recent court hearing held at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, James Duffy, a resident of Dalkeith, was formally sentenced for his involvement in the sexual abuse of a minor. The victim, a 13-year-old girl, was subjected to inappropriate and illegal acts, which led to Duffy’s prosecution under section 30 of the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009.

Following a thorough legal process, the court delivered its judgment in January 2025. Duffy was handed a Community Payback Order, which mandates him to complete a total of 225 hours of unpaid work over a span of three years. This sentence aims to serve both as a punitive measure and a form of community restitution.

Furthermore, the court imposed a Non-Harassment Order, explicitly forbidding Duffy from making any contact with the victim for a period of ten years. This protective measure is designed to ensure the victim’s safety and prevent any further distress or intimidation.

In addition to these restrictions, Duffy was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for a duration of three years. This registration requirement is part of the ongoing efforts to monitor and manage individuals convicted of sexual offences, thereby reducing the risk of reoffending.
