DARYL GOWERS FROM LEITH SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN EDINBURGH AND HAWICK

Daryl Gowers, a 30-year-old man from Leith, has been handed down a seven-year prison sentence after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offences involving four women. The crimes took place over a span of several years, from August 2013 to February 2018, and were committed at various locations across Edinburgh and Hawick.

Gowers was convicted of raping three women and sexually assaulting a fourth, with some of his victims including a pregnant woman and another woman he met through a dating application. The case was heard at the High Court in Glasgow, where the severity of his actions was thoroughly examined.

During the court proceedings, jurors disclosed that Gowers assaulted one of his victims while she was initially asleep, highlighting the disturbing nature of his offences. His legal representative, David Nicolson, maintained that Gowers continues to deny all charges brought against him.

The presiding judge described Gowers as a high risk for further offending and ordered that he be registered as a sex offender for life. Additionally, the court mandated that Gowers be subject to four years of supervised release following his imprisonment. The judge emphasized the gravity of the crimes, noting that one of the charges involved multiple rapes over a two-year period, and another involved a victim with learning difficulties, underscoring the heinous nature of his conduct.
