DARREN JONES FROM TADLEY SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN READING AND TADLEY
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Reading and Tadley, Darren Jones, a 48-year-old man from Tadley, has been convicted and sentenced to a significant prison term for a series of serious sexual offences involving children. Jones, who had previously gone to great lengths to conceal his identity, changed his name to Simon Jones in an effort to evade detection by law enforcement authorities. His attempts at anonymity did not succeed, as police eventually tracked him down to a hotel in Brighton, Sussex, just days after Christmas of the previous year.Jones’s criminal activities spanned several years, during which he targeted young boys, including two school-aged children. The offences took place in the areas of Reading and Tadley, with the most disturbing incidents involving boys under the age of 13. The police investigation revealed that the abuse occurred between 2015 and 2017, highlighting a troubling pattern of predatory behavior.
Following the discovery of his crimes, law enforcement officials launched a thorough investigation. They managed to locate Jones at a Brighton hotel shortly after the holiday season, leading to his arrest. During the subsequent court proceedings at Winchester Crown Court, Jones admitted to nearly 30 charges of sexual abuse against children, a revelation that underscored the severity of his actions.
In court, a police spokesperson confirmed the nature of the offences, stating, “The offences include sexual assaults on two boys under the age of 13 that took place in the Tadley and Reading areas between 2015 and 2017.” The court heard that Jones had been living under the alias Simon Jones, residing on Silchester Road, Little London, in an apparent attempt to stay under the radar and avoid detection by authorities.
Judge Jane Miller delivered the sentence, condemning Jones to 12 years in prison. Additionally, she imposed an extended licence period of five years, ensuring that he remains under supervision upon release. As part of the court’s measures to prevent further harm, Jones was also subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, restricting his activities and contact with minors. This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to protect vulnerable children from predators and bring offenders to justice.
