DARREN HORNSBY FROM ESSEX SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES IN ESSEX AND SUFFOLK
A man named Darren Hornsby, aged 36 and residing on Spring Road in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, has been handed a substantial prison sentence after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences involving minors.The sentencing took place at Chelmsford Crown Court on Thursday, 5 December 2024, where Hornsby received a term of 15 years behind bars.
In addition to his imprisonment, Hornsby was subjected to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order and was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
Hornsby’s criminal case was initiated by Essex Police in 2019, following intelligence reports concerning his online activities.
Investigators uncovered evidence of indecent images stored at his residence, which prompted a search warrant to be executed at his property.
On 28 February 2019, law enforcement officers raided Hornsby’s home, seizing multiple electronic devices.
Forensic analysis of these devices revealed a disturbing collection of child exploitation material, including 68 images classified as Category A, 172 images as Category B, and 250 images as Category C, along with numerous videos—26, 41, and four respectively in each category.
Among the seized content was a distressing video depicting a male child aged between five and seven years being sexually abused.
The video only showed the hands of the perpetrator, but investigators suspected Hornsby was responsible.
To confirm this, the police enlisted the expertise of Dame Professor Sue Black, a renowned forensic hand analyst.
Her comparison analysis provided crucial evidence linking Hornsby to the abuse depicted in the video.
Following this evidence, Hornsby was formally charged on 14 April 2021 with six counts of making indecent images of children, one count of taking an indecent image of a child, and one count of sexual assault involving penetration of a boy under 13.
Hornsby admitted to the six counts of creating indecent images but denied the other two charges—taking an indecent image and sexual assault.
During the trial, Dame Professor Sue Black presented her forensic findings, which played a significant role in the jury’s quick decision.
In November 2024, Hornsby pleaded guilty to the six counts of producing indecent images, and the court found him guilty of the remaining charges based on the forensic evidence.
In a separate case, Hornsby’s criminal activities extended to Suffolk.
On 4 June 2023, Suffolk Constabulary received a report concerning sexual assaults on two boys in their early teens at an address in Trimley St Martin.
The offences occurred on 1 and 2 June 2023.
Investigations revealed that Hornsby had befriended the boys several months prior to the assaults and had invited them to his residence in Trimley.
Following his arrest, Hornsby was charged with multiple offences, initially denying the allegations.
However, on the second day of his trial, he pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault on a male and two counts of inciting a boy aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity without consent.
Hornsby was subsequently sentenced to nine years’ imprisonment for the offences committed in Essex and an additional six years for those in Suffolk.
The sentences are to be served consecutively, resulting in a total of 15 years of incarceration.
Furthermore, Hornsby will be subject to a four-year extended licence period upon his release, ensuring ongoing supervision and restrictions to protect the public from further harm.
