BLACKPOOL MAN SENTENCED FOR ONLINE CHILD SEXUAL COMMUNICATION
A man named Darren Cook from Spencer Court, Blackpool, was convicted and sentenced at Preston Crown Court for engaging in sexual communication with a girl he believed was 14 years old, but who was actually part of a vigilante group.
The court was informed that he repeatedly sent indecent images and messages, asked for nude pictures from her Facebook account, and engaged in sexual chat via Facebook and WhatsApp.
He called her 'beautiful' and 'sexy', expressed intentions to marry her, and mentioned waiting until she was 16.
Cook also inquired about her bra size and sent explicit messages, asking about his penis size as well.
During sentencing, the judge said, "You engaged in sexual chat on Facebook and Whatsapp with a fake 14-year-old girl.
They trapped you to engage online with someone you believed to be a child.
That communication included sexual communication with her." The court disclosed that Cook has a low IQ, with an assessment score of 64 in youth, and suffers from ADHD.
He relies on state benefits due to a leg injury preventing him from working and lives alone with his dog.
He received a 22-month suspended sentence, ordered to complete 20 rehabilitation days and 100 hours of unpaid work, and was given a notification requirement for 10 years for sexual offenses.
This incident was deemed an isolated event with no prior offenses, and the court believed he could benefit from intervention services.
