PORTSMOUTH MAN JAILED FOR CONTROLLING COERCIVE BEHAVIOUR
A 43-year-old man from Portsmouth, Daniel Paddon, has received a prison sentence of three years and nine months after being convicted of controlling and coercive conduct within a personal or familial relationship.Paddon had denied the accusations for actions carried out between August and November 2023.
Throughout this period, he engaged in various abusive behaviors, including installing a tracking device on his victim’s vehicle, making unexpected visits to her home and refusing to leave, forcibly entering her residence by kicking down the door, and sending a barrage of abusive messages.
These communications contained threats of violence against her and her family, alongside location share points indicating he was physically outside her loved ones’ homes.
The woman described feeling helpless and terrified, to the extent that she had to reinforce her house with wooden boards for protection.
The jury delivered a guilty verdict on Monday, August 12, 2024, after an eight-day trial at Portsmouth Crown Court.
Paddon was summoned back to court on November 5 for sentencing, where he received his prison term and a restraining order that forbids him from contacting the victim in any way and excludes him from her property.
Police officials, including DI Katt Green of the Eastern Criminal Investigations Department, highlighted the damage caused by such controlling actions and urged victims to come forward.
