DUKINFIELD MAN GIVEN HOSPITAL ORDER OVER GIRLFRIEND KILLING
A 49-year-old man known as Daniel Mitchell, who has no fixed address, has been found guilty of manslaughter after killing his girlfriend, Alexis Karran, at their home located on Winchester Road in Dukinfield. The incident took place following serious head injuries sustained by Karran, which ultimately led to her death.
Mitchell admitted responsibility for manslaughter at Manchester Crown Court, citing diminished mental capacity as the basis of his plea.
He is to be kept under an indefinite hospital order, meaning he will remain detained until a further decision is made on his release.
Greater Manchester Police responded after an individual informed officers that he had murdered his girlfriend around 09:15 GMT on November 6, 2022.
Karran was admitted to Salford Royal Hospital but died from her injuries.
Initially arrested on suspicion of murder, Mitchell was later assessed under the Mental Health Act and deemed fit for interview.
In March 2023, prosecutors formally charged him with her murder.
During the court appearance in October, Mitchell entered a guilty plea to manslaughter, and her family paid tribute, describing her as a loving and caring person who was a positive influence on others.
Duncan Thorpe, the lead investigating officer, expressed the grief caused by such a tragic loss and emphasized the support provided to Karran’s loved ones during the investigation.
