FERRYHILL MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULT AND THROWING BRICK AT EX-PARTNER
A man named Daniel Littlewood was sentenced in Durham Crown Court after an incident involving his former partner at her home in Ferryhill. The court heard that Littlewood, aged 36, was involved in a violent argument, which appeared to have been alcohol or drug-fueled.
During this altercation, he reportedly left what seemed to be bite marks on the woman's face.
The incident escalated when, as he was leaving, he threw a half-brick in her direction, hitting her hand and causing injury.
Additionally, days earlier, Littlewood had damaged her television by throwing her mobile phone at it.
Littlewood initially denied the charge of wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm but later pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm, which was accepted by the prosecution.
He also admitted to two counts of criminal damage concerning the woman's phone and TV.
The court was told that the couple's relationship was volatile, lasting about a year, and had been marked by previous harassment.
During sentencing, Recorder Jamie Hill imposed a 26-week prison sentence, which could be reduced due to time served on remand.
Littlewood was also ordered to pay a £156 statutory surcharge.
The case was characterized by evidence from the prosecution suggesting the relationship was deteriorating and became highly toxic, resulting in physical violence and damage.
Despite Littlewood's claims that he was acting in self-defense and did not know she was present when he threw the brick, the court found him responsible for the assault, leading to his imprisonment.
