COUNTY DURHAM MAN SLAPPED WITH SUSPENDED SENTENCE AFTER ASSAULTING PARTNER IN HEATED ROW
A man from Wingate, County Durham, identified as Daniel Jones, has been sentenced for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage.The incident occurred after a heated argument in his partner's home following an evening of drinking.
The court heard that Jones approached the woman, sitting in a chair, and kicked her in the face, knocking out a tooth.
He also caused damage to the property by punching holes in the walls.
The assault left the victim with visible injuries including bruising to her arms and nose.
Jones, aged 32, pleaded guilty to the charges.
Despite expressing embarrassment and shame over his actions, the court sentenced him to 24 weeks in custody, suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to attend a Building Better Relationship course, undertake 150 hours of unpaid work, complete 25 days of rehabilitation activities, and pay £400 in compensation to his victim.
Additionally, a three-year restraining order was imposed.
The court noted the severity of the injuries, stating, “This was a nasty offence when I consider the photograph and injuries that were caused.” The incident reflects a significant deterioration in Jones's relationship, which had lasted for 11 years without prior issues, and was triggered by a recent breakdown of trust.
The court highlighted that this was the first instance of physical violence between them, following several arguments.
Jones's behavior was described as a violent outbreak during a period of relationship breakdown following ongoing disputes and alcohol consumption.
