CHESTER-LE-STREET RAPIST DANIEL CAMPBELL CAUGHT AFTER VILE ATTACK AND FILMING IN COUNTY DURHAM

In April 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Daniel Campbell, a resident of Chester-Le-Street, County Durham, who committed a heinous sexual assault while his victim was asleep. The incident came to light after the victim discovered footage on Campbell's mobile phone that captured the assault, leading to his eventual arrest and conviction.

According to reports, Campbell took advantage of his sleeping victim, recording some of the assault on his mobile device. The woman, upon waking, noticed her clothing was inside out, which raised her suspicions about what had transpired during the night. Her concern prompted her to examine Campbell's phone, which she took to the toilet to check privately.

To her horror, she found the incriminating footage stored in the deleted folders of his phone. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, she acted swiftly by changing Campbell's phone PIN, preventing him from deleting the evidence permanently. She then contacted the police to report the incident, which marked the beginning of a thorough investigation by Northumbria Police's Safeguarding unit.

Initially, Campbell denied any involvement or wrongdoing, attempting to dismiss the allegations. However, the existence of the video proved his guilt beyond doubt. The evidence was compelling enough to lead to his arrest and subsequent court proceedings.

At Newcastle Crown Court, Campbell, aged 26 and residing at South Burns, Chester-Le-Street, pleaded guilty to charges of rape and three sexual assault offences. His guilty plea resulted in a significant prison sentence of six years. In addition to his incarceration, Campbell will be subject to indefinite registration as a sex offender and will be under an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim and prevent any contact.
