GUILDFORD MAN JAILED FOR MOTHER-OF-FOUR'S MURDER
Dane Messam, age 52, was found guilty of the murder of Helen Anderson, a mother-of-four from Finsbury Park in north London. Her body was discovered beside a slip-road of the A3 near Guildford, Surrey, on 23 August 2022.
The court proceedings resulted in Dane Messam being sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 23 years before eligibility for parole.
The judge described the crime as tragic, emphasizing that Helen Anderson lost her life at the hands of a man she loved who abused her trust.
The body was notably wrapped in a duvet and a plastic sheet, with Surrey Police indicating that she had been murdered by her partner, with whom she had an on-and-off relationship.
During the investigation, authorities found that Messam had been planning to flee the country, as he was seen leaving London on 25 August, the day her body was discovered.
It was also revealed that Messam had acted in self-interest, attempting to hide the crime by leaving her body in Surrey, a location unrelated to her.
Prior to her death, she was described by her family as "a dear sister and daughter" with "a big heart." After the conviction, Detective Chief Inspector Emma Vickers commented: "This was a tragic case where a woman lost her life at the hands of a man she loved who abused her trust," and detailed how her body was found wrapped and that Messam had planned to go to Jamaica to escape justice.
