DAMIAN BAVISTER FROM GRANTHAM SENTENCED FOR GROOMING AND ABUSE OF VULNERABLE TEEN GIRL
In April 2020, a disturbing case emerged involving Damian Bavister, a man who exploited a young girl with learning difficulties in the town of Grantham.Bavister's actions led to a series of serious criminal charges after he groomed and subsequently engaged in sexual activity with the vulnerable teenager, resulting in her becoming pregnant.
Details of the case reveal that Bavister targeted the girl, who was underage and had special educational needs, by establishing a manipulative relationship with her.
His grooming process involved gaining her trust over a period of time before the sexual assault took place.
The gravity of his actions was uncovered when the girl was found to be pregnant, prompting investigations that eventually exposed Bavister’s involvement.
The prosecution, led by Gurdial Singh, explained that the offence came to light after the girl’s pregnancy was confirmed.
The girl, who faced additional emotional and physical challenges due to her learning difficulties, later underwent a termination of her pregnancy.
DNA testing subsequently provided strong evidence linking Bavister to the biological father, confirming his role in the abuse.
During police interviews, Bavister, aged 31 and residing in the Grantham area at the time of the offences, initially denied any wrongdoing.
He claimed to officers that he was unable to achieve an erection, attempting to deny the sexual activity.
However, investigators uncovered evidence from his iPhone that contradicted his claims, revealing contact with the girl and an interest in sexual acts involving young girls.
Bavister pleaded guilty to a charge of engaging in sexual activity with a child between June 1 and July 3, 2019.
His admission of guilt led to a court hearing where he was sentenced to six years in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, aimed at protecting the community from further harm.
Judge Simon Hirst, presiding over the case, delivered a stern warning to Bavister, stating, “You specifically targeted a particularly vulnerable child and you groomed her.” The sentence reflects the serious nature of his crimes and the impact on the young victim, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals from predatory behavior.
