A man received a suspended prison sentence after engaging in explicit conversations via Snapchat with an individual he believed was a 14-year-old girl, but who was actually an undercover police officer.

Curtis Janman confessed that he had fantasized about having sexual encounters with girls aged between 14 and 16 when he was taken into custody by Dyfed-Powys Police.

Within just six hours of initiating a chat with a profile named ‘Brooke’ on Snapchat, the 27-year-old was transmitting explicit messages and images.

He inquired about the girl’s sexual history and described intimate acts he wished to perform, despite being cautioned early in their conversation—by the sixth message—that she was a minor.

Unbeknownst to Janman, he was communicating with an undercover officer from a regional organised crime unit, employed to gather evidence against individuals attempting to harm, abuse, or exploit children.

Over a span of two days, Janman’s messages, which exhibited concerning sexual content, prompted an investigation into his social media activity.

His residence in Carmarthenshire was identified, and his details were supplied to Dyfed-Powys Police for further enquiries.

He was arrested at his home on Saturday, November 11.

During a subsequent interview, Janman admitted to the offence and was charged with attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor.

On January 29, he received a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.

Additionally, he must complete a 31-day certified programme, undertake 30 days of rehabilitation, and is subject to a five-year sexual harm prevention order.
