CSABA KISS FROM NORMANTON JAILED FOR STRING OF SEX ATTACKS IN DERBY CITY CENTRE

In January 2019, a man named Csaba Kiss, aged 36 and residing in Normanton, was sentenced to a total of three years and nine months in prison after admitting to a series of sexual offences committed in Derby city centre. The disturbing pattern of his crimes involved him riding his bicycle close to unsuspecting victims, then touching them inappropriately before cycling away swiftly. These offences spanned over a period of 13 weeks during the previous year, prompting a significant and detailed police investigation.

Following his arrest in November, Kiss pleaded guilty to a total of 22 separate offences. His conviction was handed down at Derby Crown Court, where he was sentenced to the prison term. Once he completes this sentence, he will face deportation back to Hungary, where he will serve an additional two years in prison. This subsequent sentence is due to his being on licence for an armed robbery in which he was involved, for which he had previously received a 10-year sentence.

Detective Constable Ryan Hockley, who led the investigation into Kiss’s activities, expressed his gratitude to the victims and the public. He stated, “I would like to first thank the 21 victims in this case. Each one of them gave crucial information about Kiss which ultimately helped secure his guilty plea. They all showed huge courage in coming forward and in agreeing to testify in court should they have been needed. I would also like to thank the member of the public who witnessed one of the offences and chased after Kiss. The photo they took greatly assisted our enquiries.”

The investigation was extensive, involving over 700 hours of CCTV footage analysis. The police effort culminated in the sentencing and the order for Kiss’s deportation, which will see him serve a further two years in a Hungarian prison after his release in the UK.

Prior to these events, in December 2018, Kiss, then 35 years old and living on St Chads Road in Normanton, admitted to more than 20 sexual assaults in Derby city centre. His crimes included assaults on women, with one victim being only 13 years old. During the court hearing, Kiss, who required an interpreter from Hungary, confessed to carrying out 22 sexual assaults on 22 different women between July 29 and November 4 of the previous year.

He would approach victims in various locations, including Leonard Street, Station Approach, King Street, Cathedral Road, Sowter Road, Friary Street, St Chads Road, Osmaston Road, and others, before assaulting them and then fleeing on his bicycle. Dressed in a black, patterned Adidas tracksuit top, Kiss stood in the dock to confirm his identity and his guilty pleas to each charge. The judge, Bennett, remanded him in custody and scheduled the case for sentencing after a pre-sentence report was prepared by the probation service.

It was also revealed that Kiss had a criminal history in Hungary, including a conviction for attempted murder in 2008. He was part of a gang involved in shooting a man during a robbery of a cash transit van. It was further disclosed that Kiss moved to the UK from Hungary in 2016. His upcoming court appearance is scheduled for January 1 at Derby Crown Court, where he will face further legal proceedings related to these offences.
