MAN JAILED FOR MULTIPLE CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A man from Normanton has received a prison sentence of over 12 years after admitting to several child sex crimes.Andrew Whittaker, aged 62, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on Monday to a term of 12 years and nine months.
He pleaded guilty to eight charges of sexual assault against a teenage girl in the Wakefield area.
The misconduct occurred over a period from 2015 to 2020, involving one victim and encompassing seven offences related to child sex crimes.
One of the offences was a sexual assault committed when the victim was over 16.
The allegations came to light in 2020, leading Wakefield District safeguarding officers to conduct an extensive investigation.
Whittaker was taken into custody and formally charged in November 2021.
In addition to his prison term, he will be required to register as a sex offender.
