ABERDEEN MAN CRAIG TAYLOR INVOLVED IN SEXUAL ASSAULT IN CITY CENTRE CAR PARK

Craig Taylor, a resident of Aberdeen, became the focus of a serious criminal investigation following an incident of sexual assault that took place in a city-centre car park. The assault occurred in a location frequented by students, specifically within a student accommodation car park, and was captured on CCTV footage, which showed Taylor leaving the scene shortly after the incident.

The police responded swiftly to the reports and launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter. As part of their efforts, authorities circulated images of Taylor in the media in an attempt to identify and locate him. The images eventually led to a breakthrough when Taylor’s family members recognized him. Upon seeing the photographs, they immediately contacted law enforcement authorities and handed over some of his clothing for DNA testing, which was crucial in establishing his involvement.

On November 18, 2014, Craig Taylor, aged 24 at the time, appeared before the High Court in Aberdeen to face charges related to the assault. During the court proceedings, Taylor admitted to carrying out the assault, which had taken place in the early hours of August 31 of the previous year. Initially, he faced charges of attempted rape; however, he ultimately pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, which was accepted by the Crown. This plea marked a significant development in the case, reflecting a reduction in the severity of the charges against him.

The victim, a woman aged 37, was out in Aberdeen the night before the assault. She was heavily intoxicated, to the point that she fell over and was unable to get up. CCTV footage from the scene depicted her being followed by Taylor, who confronted her near Loch Street and later in the Spring Garden car park. Despite her pleas for him to stop, Taylor ignored her requests and proceeded to pull down her leggings, exposing his private parts in the process.

Following the circulation of images of Taylor, his sister recognized him and showed the photographs to their mother. The family’s identification led to Taylor’s arrest and subsequent detention. When confronted by authorities, Taylor initially denied the allegations. However, law enforcement officials collected his clothing for DNA analysis, which confirmed his involvement in the assault.

As a result of his conviction, Taylor was placed on the sex offenders’ register, a measure designed to monitor individuals convicted of sexual crimes. He is scheduled to be sentenced next month. Taylor, who currently resides at Cattofield Place in Aberdeen, chose not to comment on the case after the court proceedings concluded.
