BRITISH SOLDIER CRAIG STORNEY JAILED IN INNSBRUCK FOR RAPE IN TYROL
In July 2015, Craig Stormey, a 30-year-old British soldier, was sentenced to nine years in prison following his conviction for the drunken rape of a six-year-old girl in her bedroom while stationed in Austria. This incident occurred during an adventure course with the 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery in the Stubai Valley, Austria.
Judge Norbert Hofer described the offense as one of the 'worst kind of abuse of a child's physical well-being,' emphasizing the difficulty in assigning an appropriate punishment given the severity of the crime.
The court in Innsbruck, Tyrol, heard that the sexual assault took place in November 2014 when Stormey, intoxicated, illegally entered an unlocked house, disrobed, and sexually assaulted the sleeping child.
The girl’s father recounted the distressing incident: 'I was lying in my bed and saw a figure holding a child in his arms.
I was half asleep and first thought it was my wife, but then I realized she was lying next to me.
Then I saw the naked stranger in another room with my daughter.
I completely flipped and hit him several times in the face.' During the altercation, the father’s wife and daughter fled the scene as he called the police.
He added, 'Our daughter has managed to cope with the incident relatively well.
But she has a very good memory.' Following the attack, police arrested Stormey at the scene.
He was subsequently held in Innsbruck prison while awaiting trial.
Medical investigators examined the young girl and supported her account of the events.
During the court proceedings, Stormey issued an apology to the girl and her parents.
Since last known whereabouts in Telford in 2019, Stormey remains a subject of law enforcement records.
