CRAIG NUNN FROM STOURPORT ON SEVERN IN HORRIFIC CAT ABUSE INCIDENT

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community of Stourport-on-Severn, Craig Anthony Nunn, born on December 3, 1985, and residing on Sandy Lane, Titton, was found guilty of causing severe harm to a defenseless feline. The incident, which took place in July 2013, involved Nunn using a catapult to deliberately shoot a marble at an innocent cat, resulting in the animal losing one of its eyes.

According to court records, Nunn, who is known to be a 'dog person,' openly boasted to police that he considered himself 'a good shot' after firing a glass marble at a sleeping cat. The victim, an 11-year-old tortoiseshell named Misty, was found to have sustained such serious injuries that she required the removal of her eye. The attack occurred while Misty was resting peacefully on a wall in her owner’s garden, unaware of the impending danger.

The court heard that the incident happened shortly before 5 a.m. on July 13, 2013. Nunn had been cycling home after a night spent lamping rabbits with his brother-in-law. During his journey, he encountered Misty, who was sleeping soundly. Without hesitation, Nunn pulled out a small catapult from his pocket and aimed it at the cat from approximately 10 feet away. The marble struck Misty, causing her to fall from the wall and suffer grievous injuries.

Police later reviewed CCTV footage from the area, which clearly identified Nunn as the individual responsible. When questioned, Nunn admitted to the act, explaining that he had a history of negative experiences with cats and that the one he shot resembled a cat he had previously had issues with. His comments underscored a disturbing pattern of behavior and a pathological hatred for cats.

During the court proceedings, prosecutor Peter Love emphasized the cruelty of the act, highlighting the pain and suffering inflicted upon Misty. Magistrate Trevor Burgess remarked on the severity of the injury, stating, 'The loss of an eye for the cat would have been extremely painful and will affect it for the rest of its life.'

Despite owning two dogs at his home, which he shares with his partner and their three children, Nunn was only disqualified from owning cats for a period of ten years, a restriction that was set to expire in August 2023. The court sentenced him to eight weeks in prison, with no order made for court costs or compensation to Misty’s family.

This case has sparked outrage among animal welfare advocates and residents of Stourport-on-Severn, who condemn such acts of cruelty and call for stricter penalties to prevent future incidents of animal abuse.
