MAN WHO STRANGLED GIRL IN RHYL SENTENCED TO EXTRA PRISON TIME
A man previously convicted of strangling a teenage girl in Rhyl has received an additional prison sentence.Connor Gressley-Jones, aged 27, was initially sentenced to two years in April after admitting to intentionally choking the girl on East Parade in January.
The incident took place shortly after 9:30 PM as the girl was returning to her hotel following a night out drinking.
Gressley-Jones approached her on East Parade, and after an altercation, he struck her in the face and grasped her neck with his left hand, causing her to struggle for several seconds and sustain bruising along with a minor cut to her neck.
He then released her, and she was seen crying in her hotel room.
Originally denying the offence, Gressley-Jones changed his plea to guilty on the day his trial was scheduled to start.
Last week, during a hearing at Mold Magistrates Court, he was sentenced to an extra 30 days in prison for unpaid fines totaling £2,181.25, which had accumulated since June 2016.
The court sentenced him in his absence.
Although he now lives in Warrington, Gressley-Jones was formerly from Bath Street, Rhyl.
The court also handed down the new sentence for the unpaid fine.
Court records indicate that after midnight on January 23, Gressley-Jones approached the girl on East Parade, prompting an argument.
He then struck her in the face and grabbed her neck, restricting her breathing for several seconds, leading to visible bruises and a minor neck injury.
The girl was observed to be upset and crying after the incident.
Gressley-Jones initially denied the assault but later pleaded guilty when the case was due to go to trial.
