NORTH SHIELDS DAD FINED FOR VANDALISM OF DAUGHTER'S ROOM
A North Tyneside dad Coner Williamson smashed his daughter's bedroom window with a paving slab over the Christmas holidays.Williamson had been arguing with his ex-partner and sister before intentionally breaking the window of their 19-month-old daughter's bedroom.
The incident, which occurred on December 22 last year, left Williamson's ex-partner feeling "terrified" for her safety.
The court was told that Williamson was angry because his sister was visiting their daughter with presents, and he believed he was being made to look foolish for not attending.
Prosecutor Paul Coulson stated: "He said he was going to attend the address because his sister was going to be bringing gifts and it would make him 'look like a mug'".
Williamson arrived at his ex-partner's house in North Shields but was not allowed inside.
Then he sent a message to his sister warning her that he would break the window if she didn't leave within 30 seconds.
Moments later, a loud bang was heard, and the window was found smashed with a paving slab, affecting the child's bedroom.
Williamson appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court to be sentenced after pleading guilty to criminal damage.
The court noted that Williamson and the woman had been in a relationship for around three years but had separated three or four weeks prior to the incident.
His ex-partner described feeling "terrified for her safety," and the court heard Williamson had two previous convictions for being drunk and disorderly.
In mitigation, his lawyer Karen Minhas said Williamson acted "in the heat of the moment" and was suffering from depression at the time.
She explained he had sought help for his mental health since and was looking to improve himself.
Williamson was fined £120, ordered to pay £200 in compensation (deducted from benefits), and was also required to pay £85 in court costs and a £48 surcharge.
