COLIN MOODY FROM REDRUTH SENTENCED FOR SEX CRIMES AGAINST TEENS IN TRURO

In a case that has shocked the community of Redruth, Colin Moody, a 67-year-old resident of Appin Gardens, was convicted of serious sexual offenses committed against a young girl during the 1980s.

The victim, who was between the ages of 11 and 13 at the time, endured a prolonged period of abuse at the hands of Moody, a plumbing and heating engineer by profession.

Moody appeared before Truro Crown Court on a Thursday, where he pleaded guilty to a total of twelve charges.

These included six counts of gross indecency and six counts of indecent assault, all relating to the same victim.

His admission of guilt was a significant development in the case, which had been closely followed by local residents and advocacy groups concerned with child protection.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge John Neligan addressed Moody directly, highlighting the severity of his actions.

The judge stated, "She was at a vulnerable and highly sensitive age and you destroyed a lot of her childhood and teenage years, and blighted her life ever since." The judge also revealed that Moody had threatened to commit suicide, which added a layer of complexity to the case.

The victim, out of fear and concern for Moody’s well-being, chose not to disclose the abuse to anyone at the time, a decision that the court acknowledged as a tragic consequence of her vulnerability.

While acknowledging Moody’s guilty plea and apparent remorse, Judge Neligan emphasized the lasting impact of his crimes.

As part of the sentence, Moody was sentenced to five and a half years in prison.

Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and was subject to a restraining order that prohibits him from making any contact with his victim.

The court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which such offenses are treated and the importance of protecting victims from further harm.
