COLIN JAMES BELL FROM TAYPORT STRUCK OFF AFTER SENDING INDECENT TEXTS TO SCHOOLGIRL

A teacher has faced dismissal following allegations of sending inappropriate and offensive messages to a teenage girl.

Colin James Bell, aged 42, who was employed as a biology teacher, was convicted in 2015 of sending texts that were described as 'grossly offensive' and that detailed his sexual desires towards the 16-year-old student.

The incident led to legal consequences, including a 12-month supervision order and a requirement for Bell to register as a sex offender at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on August 8 of the previous year.

Bell, a former high school teacher and a married father of two, has now been officially removed from the teaching register by the education authorities after he admitted to the allegations.

The decision to strike him off was made following his acknowledgment of the misconduct.

When approached by the Daily Record for comment regarding his conviction, Bell responded by placing a child on his shoulders and pulling a hood over his head, refusing to engage further.

At his residence in Tayport, Fife, Bell declined to speak to reporters, telling them, “No.

Go away.

You’re ruining people’s lives.

We’re all human, we all make mistakes.

There’s no need to make it worse.” The charges against Bell specify that on December 29, 2015, he sent a series of texts to the girl that were characterized as 'grossly offensive' and of an indecent, obscene, or menacing nature.

These messages repeatedly referenced his sexual desires towards her, constituting a serious breach of conduct.

In a statement issued by the General Teaching Council for Scotland on behalf of Bell, it was confirmed that he had waived his right to a full disciplinary hearing and had fully admitted to the allegations.

As a result, his name has been removed from the official teaching register, and he is barred from reapplying for teaching positions for a period of two years.

Should he choose to seek reinstatement, a panel will review his case and decide whether he can return to the classroom.

Furthermore, Bell has been referred under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act.

This referral allows Scottish Government Ministers to consider whether to impose a lifetime ban on him working with children, given the serious nature of his misconduct and the potential risk to vulnerable individuals.
