MAN SENTENCED FOR STALKING AND THREATENING EX-GIRLFRIEND IN TAYPORT
A man known as Mark Dowie, aged 45, who is currently detained at HMP Perth, has been sentenced following charges of stalking and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner. The incidents occurred at various addresses in Tayport and at Tesco in Dundee's Riverside Drive from March 21 to July 6 of the previous year.
Dowie pleaded guilty to these offenses.
The court imposed a community payback order with a two-year supervision requirement.
Additionally, a conduct requirement was placed, prohibiting him from approaching or contacting the victims, and a non-harassment order was issued to prevent Dowie from contacting them for five years.
The court detailed that Dowie followed Elaine Pearson around Tesco for 25 minutes, confronting her and threatening to kill her new partner.
Ms.
Pearson had previously broken up with Dowie after 26 years together, and during this period, Dowie had sent her hundreds of text messages and numerous letters up to 80 pages long, which she regarded as threatening.
The court heard that in one message, Dowie told her she would regret not returning to him, which she interpreted as a threat, and that she feared he might harm himself or approach her address.
Tensions escalated when Dowie confronted Ms.
Pearson in the supermarket car park, making derogatory sexual remarks and threatening her new partner, Kmiec Kryzstof.
On another occasion, Ms.
Pearson saw Dowie's car parked near her in Tayport, although he had no reason to be there, and he waved at her from a nearby lane while she was driving.
Defence counsel Peter Mullen stated that Dowie denied intending to start a confrontation at Tesco.
The case underscores the serious nature of stalking and threatening behaviors, resulting in court-mandated restrictions and supervision for Dowie.
