PRESTATYN MAN JAILED FOR RAPE AND ASSAULT
Prestatyn man was sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of multiple offences including rape and assault.Colan Burns, aged 32, was found guilty of ten charges, which included three counts of rape, assault by penetration, and two counts of physical assault.
Despite denying all charges and claiming the allegations were false, the jury convicted him at Mold Crown Court.
The judge, Niclas Parry, stated that Burns subjected his victim to violence and sexual assault, describing him as "a controlling bully" with no regard for his victim’s feelings, which left her feeling desperate.
The judge detailed how Burns had kicked, punched, and struck his victim prior to raping her, actions which he found added to his gratification.
The court heard that Burns knew his victim was not consenting during the assault.
Burns was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) prohibiting him from approaching the victim.
Judge Parry noted that Burns was a man who had lost self-control on occasions, and while he had no previous convictions and was described as an industrious family man, his behavior was unacceptable.
He received concurrent sentences of eight years, three years, and 12 months, totaling eight years in prison.
The judge also mentioned that the case had some elements reminiscent of a 15-year-long case but emphasized that Burns showed some recognition of his unacceptable behavior, hinting at potential for change in the future.
