BRIT SOLDIER WHO STABBED GIRLFRIEND TO DEATH GETS 16-YEAR BID UPHELD
Christopher Minards, who was found guilty of the murder of his girlfriend Emma McArthur, received a sentence of at least 16 years and two months in prison. The Court of Appeal approved this decision, confirming that the sentence was not excessively lenient.
The fatal attack took place on April 1 in Thatcham, Berkshire, where Minards stabbed Emma McArthur six times while she was in her vehicle.
Evidence showed that Minards, a 36-year-old ex-Army medic, had grown apart from McArthur, with whom he had been in a relationship for 11 years.
On the evening of the incident, he was carrying a bag containing a knife, petrol bottles, and a change of clothes when he visited her home.
Afterwards, Minards contacted emergency services to admit to the crime and tried to perform CPR.
During the sentencing, the judge highlighted the brutality of the stabbing, the element of planning, and Minards’ mental health problems, including post-traumatic stress disorder from his military background.
Lady Justice Nicola Davies stated that the sentencing judge had carefully and logically applied the law without error and pointed out that the devastation caused to Emma McArthur’s children and family is irreplaceable and cannot be addressed by a prison term.
