MAN SPENT CHRISTMAS IN JAIL FOR DEFYING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ORDER
A man who violated a domestic violence protection order (DVPO) was sentenced to jail over the Christmas period.
Reading magistrates issued the order on December 2 last year for 30-year-old Declan Chaudron, who was residing on Urquhart Road, Thatcham.
The directive prohibited Chaudron from harassing or threatening a specific woman and mandated his departure from the residence, as well as staying at least 100 meters away from it.
The order was in effect for a duration of 28 days.
However, Chaudron appeared before a special court session on Boxing Day, December 26.
During this hearing, he confessed to breaching the DVPO on Christmas Eve, December 24.
The magistrates sentenced Chaudron to six weeks in prison.
They explained that the custodial sentence was due to his blatant disregard for court orders, the fact that this was his fourth breach of the DVPO, the impact on his mother, and the fact that his previous criminal record worsened the situation.
