MAN WITH 53 CONVICTIONS SENTENCED TO 30 MONTHS FOR VICIOUS STREET ATTACK AND WITNESS THREATS
Christopher Lowe, a 38-year-old man with a criminal record comprising 24 convictions for 53 offenses, was involved in a violent assault on his wife in a street in Stoke-on-Trent during daylight hours. The incident took place when he visited his wife's grandmother's residence on Westminster Place in Longton.
Court reports state that Lowe shouted abusive names, demanded money, spat at her, kicked her, and attempted to strangle her.
During the attack, he grabbed her around the neck and jabbed her with a small, sharp object, threatening her life by demanding money and stating he would kill her if she didn’t comply.
An eyewitness observed the assault and later provided a statement to the police.
Lowe then turned his aggression towards a woman who witnessed the attack, warning her he would repeat the assault if she did not withdraw her police statement, and threatening to break into her home.
The woman tried to escape but was kicked in the shin, causing her pain and prompting her to scream.
Following the incident, she went to hospital where she was diagnosed with colitis.
Witnesses also saw Lowe approach another woman near Lloyds Bank in Longton with a kitchen knife, claiming he planned to stab her.
His history of intimidation includes incidents such as smashing eggs over a woman’s window and sending threatening messages involving a knife.
In court, Lowe admitted to charges of actual bodily harm (ABH), possessing a bladed article, and intimidating witnesses on two occasions.
He was sentenced to 30 months in prison and was also issued a restraining order against his wife, her children, and the witness.
The judge noted that Lowe’s behavior was influenced by drug addiction, specifically to monkey dust, which exacerbated his violent outbursts.
His solicitor expressed remorse and a desire to start anew post-release, with plans to leave the area supported by family.
The court highlighted the dangerous impact of monkey dust, calling it “the scourge of the city,” and took into account Lowe’s criminal record and substance abuse issues during sentencing.
