CHRISTOPHER FORREST SENTENCED IN EAST KILBRIDE AFTER THREE-YEAR ABUSE CAMPAIGN
Christopher Forrest, aged 43, was handed down a prison sentence of 27 months in August 2022 following a prolonged period of abusive behavior spanning over three years against Elizabeth Shanks.The victim, now 36 years old, documented her ordeal by recording footage of Forrest's violent assaults, which played a crucial role in securing his conviction in court.
These disturbing recordings depicted Forrest violently slamming Elizabeth against a wall and violently throwing her to the ground, revealing the severity of his attacks.
Despite his incarceration, Elizabeth has been subjected to relentless harassment from Forrest's supporters, which has significantly compounded her trauma.
She has openly shared that her nightmare began immediately after Forrest was imprisoned, as she started receiving threatening messages and intimidating correspondence.
Elizabeth recounted that she was told she should be 'put down' or drowned, and she has received a series of disturbing messages, including letters sent directly to her workplace and neighbors, falsely claiming she is mentally unwell.
In one particularly cruel incident, she received a video featuring Forrest's mother making violent and threatening suggestions against her.
Elizabeth expressed her distress, stating, "I've had people who blame me saying I should be 'put down' or 'drowned' or 'run into the Clyde'.
I'm barely sleeping and I'm worried that people might come to my house." She also revealed that she has a non-harassment order in place against Forrest but feels that the police have not provided adequate support regarding the online threats.
Elizabeth explained that law enforcement officials told her they could not take further action because, technically, no crime was being committed in the context of the messages.
Feeling increasingly vulnerable, she has taken measures to protect herself, including installing CCTV cameras around her property for added security.
Her ongoing ordeal highlights the challenges victims face even after legal actions are taken against their abusers, especially when harassment persists through digital and indirect means.
