PREDATOR JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ABUSING YOUNG GIRL
A man has been sentenced to prison today after being convicted of sexually abusing a young girl when she was only nine years old.Christopher Burns, aged 72, committed the abuse when he was in his late 40s.
The victim came forward in 2021, feeling prepared to disclose the abuse she endured as a child, leading to a police investigation.
Under the direction of detectives from the CAVA Unit (Child Abuse and Vulnerable Adults), Burns was arrested and charged in relation to the incidents.
Residing in Guisborough, Burns denied the allegations, subjecting the victim to a court trial.
On 26th March 2026, Teesside Crown Court found him guilty of two charges of indecent assault on a girl under 14.
He was immediately taken into custody.
On Monday, 15th June, he appeared at the same court and received a sentence of seven years in prison, with an additional year on extended licence.
Burns is now registered as a sex offender for life and subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order to safeguard other vulnerable children and the victim.
